Windows 7 - Screen resize at startup

I have my screen in 1024x786 resolution in windows 7 yet whenever i restart my computer it seems to resize my screen (widens it horizontally but not vertically) yet it still says that it is in the same resolution and if i change the resolution to something else then back to 1024x768 it goes back to normal. I think it might be something to do with my monitor (could be that it keeps setting it to widescreen or something) but im not sure.

Its nothing major, just a little annoying so its something i'd avoid if i could.

    Thanks, Matt.
