    ATI 4850 and HDMI Audio

I have note used this card in awhile and put it in a new build that I have put together. However when I go to switch to HDMI audio it says that my device is not compatible and that I have to use another cable. But I have used this card with the Sony TV before. I have the latest drivers and I want to see if anyone else knows how to fix this.

    Try this.

    Start> In search box type

    change sound card settings

    Enter

See if you have an HDMI source (the video cards hdmi audio out).

Set that as default might be your fix.

Yea, it just shows the icon and says that it is not connected. IE: grayed out. I am not sure why it does not come up because it is connected to the TV using the same port as I use for my other main computer. My 6990 has no issues just this old card. Could it be that AMD has changed something in the drivers since I last used this card in the fall?

I'm sure I've researched this before with the 4850, and you aren't alone. Some say you need the ATI HDMI driver, some say you need a Realtek HDMI driver, which will give you a control panel that you can then set the audio device. I've read that without the Realtek HDMI driver, the option will be greyed out. It's not clear why some have no issues, but others have your very problem.
