video driver issue on dell gx270 please help

I have a dell gx270 that I obtained as a machine to just have windows 7 on it. I installed windows 7 and I havent experienced a freeze or hang up howerver i cant change my resolution from 640x480 to anything else.

I tried the video driver on dell and intel (the 845g). I even went into options and ran it in XP SP2 mode and as administrator. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    the pc is a dell gx270 with a 2.66ghz p4 processor, 1gb RAM, and a 120gb hdd.

    thanks.

    Upgrade from Vista Works

I also had this same problem.

To get this to work, I installed Vista (Home Edition) first, installed the main drivers from the dell website - R58182 (audio), R58201 (chipset), R59444 (network), R126991 (graphics) - and performed an upgrade to Windows 7. Hopefully that works...

    Dell GX270 Video Resolution

I went into BIOS setup and changed Integrated Devices (LegacySelect Options)
and changed the Onboard Video Buffer from 1mb to 8mb.
    Voila!

Great job! I was stumped here trying to figure out why the resolution would not change and did get the same problem when trying to download the xp drivers - only drivers available. Great informatin - thanks. Overall the gx270 seems to work fine and all other drivers seemed to have installed just fine.

Hello - I just registered to add my thanks too. I have just upgraded a Dell Optiplex SX270 from Windows 2000 to Windows 7 Ultimate and had the same display issues. Luckily I had found this post whilst doing my pre install homework and was easily able to sort it using the Bios fix from the above post. Many thanks. Interestingly I had to go from Win2000 to XP and then to Win7 - I couldn't go straight to Win7. Now have a nice little machine to connect to the living room TV!

I registered just to say thank you to the above poster!!

    I am on Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit, on a Dell Optiplex GX270, 1GB ram, P4 3.0ghz.

I just upgraded this computers OS for my parents and was stumped. My issue was there was no way to change resolution under control panel. It gave me a "can't change resolution due to screen being under 600 pixels (or something like that)." Wtf, my SyncMaster is 1680x1050! I've tried Dell's site. Video drivers there were only for XP systems, so did not work and kept giving me an "error 40." As of today, the link under a "said" Youtube link, Meg@video is down, so never even got to try that video driver.

Came across this page and the above worked!!

I do believe this is the first time I've seen a new member solve another new member's problem. Awesome!

I, too, just registered to say "Thanks"; worked like a charm. Have a feeling that tip just saved a 'whole bunch' of time!
Now, if I can just find the same type solution for the audio!! :)
