AGP or PCI-E version of the card? If it is AGP this is the one you need,

    try this:
goto Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System and click on advanced system settings link
select Hardware tab and click on Device installation button.

here choose yes do this automatcally

now press start >> devmgmt.msc to open up device manager
here under Display adapters right click on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3850 and select uninstall
check delete the driver software for this device and click OK
    update windows and restart.

Your system specs are empty. Is this a desktop or laptop? What brand/model? Real HD3850 (which is a very large card in its desktop version) or a Mobility HD3850 onboard chip?

Did you have some other manufacturer's video card in the PC before this? Have you uninstalled completely? How did you uninstall?

Video drivers for OEM/manufacturer-provided hardware normally come from the manufacturer's site, not from AMD/ATI site. But for sure you would need Mobility HD3850 driver and not the "regular" desktop driver, I would think.

I've had a "fanless" HD3850 (which was huge), fanless HD4670, fanless HD4850, and now fanned HD5770 Viper-X, in my own two machines. Also placed fanless HD4550 in several machines for friends and family. These were all real desktop PC's, and genuine PCIe cards.

My approach to ATI driver install is to first UNINSTALL COMPLETELY all previously installed ATI software/drivers. For me this can most simply and dependably be done using Driver Sweeper. I no longer run Catalyst's Install Manager to uninstall the driver, as I find it "unreliable". You just run Driver Sweeper, check the "AMD - Display" box, push the "Analyse" button, then push the "Clean" button. Then re-boot. You should now be completely purged of all ATI drivers and software, and at boot time there should not be "new hardware detected" and an auto-install of any residual version of ATI drivers. Instead you're now running "pure and virgin", with generic Microsoft VGA drivers controlling the video card in VGA mode. If you have dual-monitors, they'll both be receiving identical VGA-mode output, etc. ATI drivers are gone from your system.

Then run the latest downloaded 12.2 Catalyst Suite, which should install both drivers and Catalyst Control Center. You can leave the other pre-checked items checked, for install, even though you probably don't need them all. The self-expanding package will go into some folder (on your C-drive, unless you manually change the target location) and then SETUP.EXE will run from there.

Hopefully the install completes successfully. If so, just reboot and you should be in business.

Sometimes for me the driver install here fails (according to the log) although other parts of the "suite" went in ok. Strange. Anyway my solution is then to go into Device Manager, select the Display Adapter, right-click and select "update driver software". Then push the "browse my computer for driver software" (manual install) and then navigate to (or simply manually enter by typing it in) the high-level \ATI folder which the installer file self-expanded into. Check the box for "include subfolders" and push the "next" button. The 12.2 binary INF file and supporting driver files down in the proper sub-folder should be detected and the driver update should now complete successrully this way, even though for some reason it failed using the ATI-provided Catalyst Install Manager. Once again, reboot, and you should now be in business.

    Does this help?

I suggest you to download the drivers from the manufacturers site first. If this does not works then go the AMD-ATI site and try downloading the drivers. Most probably this should solve your issue. IT happened with me as well, when I installed an ATI video card. I was not able to download the drivers from its manufacturer's site, but I was easily able to update the video card's drivers from AMD-ATI website. Try this out
