Black screen on boot.

Hey guys Im new to the forum because I wanted to see if anyone knew about this problem I am having. I recently moved from one house to another and after the move I hooked up my PC and upon booting I get a black screen with a cursor. It actually does boot because I can hear the startup noise but there is a black screen. If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate it as I have found nothing on Google or Youtube.

Try booting into safe mode and updating the device drivers.

Removing the graphics driver in safe mode might work for you. Just remove it via Device manager.

It sounds like while you were moving the computer got jostled around and something may have come loose or disconnected. Do you have an ESD wrist strap available? If so, you should open up the computer and re-seat all connections. You may only need to check the GPU. Of course I am only assuming you have a GPU because you have not filled out your system specs. If you do have a GPU, with the power on the PC off, and unplugged, press and hold the power button for five seconds to remove residual power from the system. After doing so open the side of the case and using your ESD wrist strap, unplug the power going into the GPU, then carefully pull the release clip at the bottom of the GPU on the PCI-e slot and with your free hand, pull up diagonally on the card. Place the card on a piece of cardboard or a rubber placemat and using a can of compressed air, clean out your PCI-e slot. After doing so, carefully reinsert the GPU into the PCI-e slot. The card should lock back into place and then plug the power back into the GPU. At this point, go ahead and reconnect the PC and test. If you are still having problems, please post back and let us know. Also, while you have your case open, if you notice a large amount of dust bunnies in there, go ahead and carefully blow the whole thing out.
