Humm are you over or under clocking? Do you have any kind of power management?
Okay never mind it is your psu. Your under powering your machine.
bugmeister thanks for the helpful replay telling me a have a corsair cx 400 just like i already listed really helpful info.
i ordered a new power supply a few days ago a corsair 750w tx v2. My first card was running fine and my card will play games for hours on end but when browsing the web or anything desktop related it gives me the display error every 3 to 5 mins you would think if it was power supply related when stressing it in games would make it fail or give me the error not in power save mode on the desktop.

bugmeister i see in your system specs you have a msi 6870 but is it the same one as me the msi r6870 twin frozr III because it seems like i am not the only one having problems with this model look at the newegg reviews Newegg.ca - MSI R6870 Hawk Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
new psu in today installed it still dose not work giving me the display driver error every 3 to 5
min still every one was wrong about the psu.
ZeroCoolll, while your frustrations are certainly understandable, you have to understand that we are troubleshooting over the air.
