Need Screen Resolution Help Please!!!

I just upgraded my home computer to Windows 7, but now my screen display is stretched and grainy. The image is terrible and I was once so happy with the my monitor when running windows XP.

I have a BenQ G2400W widescreen monitor
with a standard VGA graphics Adapter.

The monitor specs state setting the screen resolution at 1920 Z 1200 / Aspect Ratio 16:10.

However, Windows 7 will only allow me to set it as high as 1280 X 1024

Somebody please help me!!!

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You are currently running a standard VGA adapter, which has poor resolution.

You need to download a graphics driver either from the computer manufacturer's support site or the hardware manufacturer's support site.

If you can't get one from either, Windows may well provide you with one through Windows Updates.

You could try going into device manager and updating the graphics driver from there.

Thanks so much for the quick assist SeaVixen.
Yes, I tried to source out a driver from BenQ.. however they advised they do not have a driver compatible with windows 7 nor do they intend to in the near future

I tried to update the driver through the device manager only to be told my driver is up to date.

The only other recommendation I got was to purchase a video card with Direct X 9.0 or higher. I just find it frustrating that the screen resolution was so awesome with Windows XP... and now its so horrendous with windows 7 and im forced to shell out more money for a video card to fix the problem.

I don't think the company that makes the monitor (BenQ) is responsible for making drivers for it. That should be the job of the maker of your video card. The video card is responsible for outputting the video signal, the monitor just displays what it is told to by your video card. Unless that monitor was somehow linked/packaged with your vid card? If you can find the name of your video card (should be available in Device Manager) I'd say google the name of it along with "windows 7 driver" and see what you can find. Or post the name of your card on here and I'll see if I can find something for it.

original packaging should include a CD with drivers (for up to Win Vista--which should work on Win7) and both VGA and DVI cables

Hey Slammer.. oh my gosh thanks for the help!

I logged into my device manager... under display adapters is:
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

However, under other devices..
it lists 2 unrecognized video controllers.
I tried to update the drivers.. and got this message.

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Windows suggests i find out the name of the manufacturer to download a driver.

Im really clueless now...

I downloaded the BenQ digital driver....

Ok definitely a problem caused by a lack of drivers then. Like seavixen32 said, your computer is running on the minimal video drivers built in to it that are generally terrible (like you described). Have you let windows install all the updates it needs to through Windows Update? Windows 7 is pretty good at finding the drivers for things for you, especially essential ones like video drivers.

Also, if you don't know/remember the name of your video card, download Speccy, install it, and it should tell you under "Graphics" in the main screen what kind of video card you have. From there, you can do a google search to find the right drivers for it, assuming Windows Update can't find them for you.

please list the specs for your machine.

does your machine have a separate video card?
is your monitor plugged into the video card or onboard video?

motherboard specs (all specs) would be helpful

^ Very true. That Speccy program should actually tell you all the system specs you could ever want to know, making it fairly easy to post them up here for us.
