Endless Windows 7 resolution issues

Hey, it's me, Jesus. It seems like I can never get 1680x1050 to work with Windows 7 properly. I have had the Windows 7100 64bit RC build, and it was not able to properly display 1680x1050. Now, I have Windows 7 Professional from ACM.org, also 64bit. It doesn't even give me 1680x1050 as an option.

This is a 22" Westinghouse LCM-22w3 monitor. It's standard resolution is supposed to be 1680x1050. I am using an ATI 4670 video card. Yes, I have updated the display driver directly from AMD.

Help, I've tried most things I can think of, I just about want to blow up the computer.

Ati's latest Catalyst is the most horrible ever, I don't mean the quality, but the UI.

But somewhere there is a tab where you can force custom resolutions.

See if you can find it.

Under desktop properties in CCC, I see a Force option.

I click on it, and it gives me all the same options, but no 1680x1050. I even see 1920x1080 for some reason.

Install monitor drivers, as they contain information about supported resolutions and refresh rates for the monitor.

Seriously, I don't understand how people can not comprehend a simple concept that ati and nvidia make drivers for GRAPHICS CARDS not monitors.
Almost all monitors either come with their own driver on a cd, or you download them from the monitor manufacturers website. If the monitor drivers were not important then why would the monitor manufacturers bother to write them ?
So you install your graphics card drivers for your graphics card, and you install monitor drivers for the monitor, then you can choose the appropriate resolutions supported by your monitor.

I don't see a driver option for the monitor. Google just gave me people with problems with the monitor. I don't have a CD for the monitor.

If all is working OK, the monitor should inform the graphics card what resolutions it supports, via EDID.

What occasionally happens is the EDID chip in the monitor gets corrupted, fried or whatever. In Nvidia you can creat custom resolutions and force whatever you like. With ATI, I'm not so sure - you can create a custom monitor driver with powerstrip, although in x64 you'll have to turn off signed drivers for that to work.

Yeah I read that as well. I'm sure my 4670 supports a resolution that's been used for years, and that's nice that it tells me it's plug and play but it still doesn't work properly.

Hey, it's Jesus again, just an update.

I bought a Nvidia GTS 250, I couldn't find monitor drivers. Even before installing drivers for the 250, I immediately had the option of 1680x1050 in Windows. So something with the Bios maybe could recognize the correct resolution for the monitor? I don't know really. Hopefully I can keep 1680x1050 now.
