If you are looking for an external USB video card, yes - you can buy those, and some of them are very good. But, they can never be the primary video on your computer.

Integrated = inside, will always be the primary display
External = outside, will never ever be the primary display (the computer will never use this while booting) |

Hi,
Just joined the forum...been lurking for a couple of months and I've gotten a tremendous amount of help from just reading the posts. My son has a Dell Inspiron, Vista, that is about 3-4 years old and he would like to upgrade the graphics card to play more and more of the latest games. Can't upgrade one in a laptop...can you? If not, then, can he use one of the "external ones" previously mentioned in this post? Thanks in advance Great forum with lots of useful info for us "old folks who aren't too computer savvy! External video cards aren't here yet, but with advances like Thunderbolt, the possibility is going to be there before too long. Unfortunately, you aren't going to find much you can do with an older laptop playing recent games.
