Windows 7 does not detect Primary monitor

I recently upgraded my laptop to an HP 6565b with docking station from an HP 6555b with the same docking station. Almost identical machines but the new one runs Windows 7.

On the new machine I cannot get it to recognize my 23" Samsung SyncMaster PX2370. The old machine did just fine (running Windows XP). I've downloaded the latest driver for my display adapter (AMD Radeon HD 6520G) and installed the proper monitor driver for the monitor.

I'm hooking the monitor up through a DVI cable on the back of the docking station.

When I hook up a basic 17" monitor, Windows recognizes the display and it works without issue. However I can't get my Widescreen to do the same. I don't know what else to do at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried changing the screen resolution?

The monitor doesn't even show as an available display thus adjusting the resolution would simply change the resolution on the laptop screen.

I can't even get the widescreen monitor to show as an available choice to extend or copy the desktop on to.

    Other ideas?

From what i found it looks like your new laptop doesn't have a DVI port, it has DisplayPort and VGA.
Your old laptop has all 3 video ports.

    Can you confirm that?

Can you remove the docking station and connect your new laptop directly to the monitor?
Test it that way to eliminate the docking station.

The laptop doesn't have a DVI port, only VGA. Same with the original computer.

It's not a docking station issue because I can hook up a standard 17" monitor via the docking station's DVI port and the computer recognizes it instantly and extends video to it. The issue only arises when I hook up my widescreen instead...no picture. And when I place the old computer with XP back on the docking station, the widescreen immediately displays correctly.

I can't think of anything else...
Maybe someone else will see this and have some other ideas.

Looks like it was the docking station, a new one did the trick. Very strange set of circumstances.
