I have a radeon 4350 in my current system, and a 4850 is coming in the mail soon this week. Before I put the card in, she I go through device manager and remove the drivers for the 4350, or just let windows figure it out?

I agree with Windude, but would just like to add, it is usually a good idea to do a fresh quick format, then when the pc starts new, it will be allot easier to install drivers needed. But this is just what I prefer to do,and isnt a must. Secondly, when your new card comes,dont install the driver of the cd,get The latest one off their site,the links are on the forum aswell.

Cool. Out of curiosity, what's the benefit removing the drivers while in safe mode?
Not exactly sure,hope someone allse can give you a better idea,but as far as I know a normal controll panel un-installation leave's traces in the registry and fragments, a safe mode uninstall is safer,cleaner and way more effective.
Sorry to barge the party but no, it's not neccesary to remove older drivers, the only reason to remove them is to save space, that's all, i've done some extensive research on this in the past and there is no evidence to prove that non removal of old drivers interferes with newer drivers.
I have to disagree, although it seems like it should not interfere, I have seen numerous times over the last decade where remnants of old drivers somehow interfered with the newer drivers and generated errors. Once the remnants were removed said erros disappeard. In my experience when I took the time to remove all remnants of older drivers regardless of platform [AMD vrs. Nvidia] there are much less incidences of generated errors.
Ok, so when I go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers through device manager, I'll still have a picture on the screen correct?

do you have and use any type of Backup/Restore strategy?
Before i make any significant system changes I make sure I have backups created so I can restore if needed.
I create a System Image Backup, and a Restore Point.
I see many threads in the forum where a user does not have System Restore enabled, and does not use System Backup Imaging.
All to often this eventually seems to end up requiring an OS re-install or OEM factory recovery.
I prefer to restore a system in < 30 minutes, rather than having to start over with a clean OS re-install.
