HI again. I have successfully installed drivers for my monitor and it is now being recognized.

But, I still have no wide screen resolutions, mainly 1680*1050. so, now what? Do I need to tell windows that my monitor is a wide screen?

Oh wow. All I needed to do was to let the computer goto sleep mode and return and now I have my resolution back. Thank you for the help Sassa and Icola77.

I also have a Acer 22'' AL2216W and am having these problems. I'm not able to install these drivers. When I try to update the driver it just says that the drivers are already up to date. The system doesn't recognize the monitor (just calls it a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor").

I've been having the same issues since the last upgrade of windows security essentials. At first, I was able to restore my resolution back, but last time I rebooted, I was stuck at 1280x720.

I have a Geforce 9800 Gt and I tried to download the most recent drivers but it didn't help at all.
