Graphics card fail after windows logo - generic pnp monitor

    Hi,

My kids PC has a problem with the new graphics card ASUS EAH5450 (Silent)
All is well when the windows generic "Standard VGA adapter" drivers are installed, but when the ASUS EAH5450 drivers are installed the PC blank screens after the windows logo. The PC is still running but is not getting past the video driver.

    I have tried the following:

Installed drivers from ASUS website, ATI website and auto install from windows update.
Started in safe mode no problems
Started in low VGA 640,480 mode with no problems

    so now I'm stumped.

Ok so an update - I have downloaded and used the ATI detect and install program and it tells me that, although it's a desktop card, it should be the mobility driver and CCC.
That done but still the same problem.

    Thanks in advance

Another update - I have tried the PC on another monitor and the problem disappears.
Is it possible to install a different monitor driver. It seems that the monitor driver that comes with the Standard VGA adapter drivers works fine with my monitor but the AMD drivers must have monitor drivers that aren't compatible with my monitor.

For anyone reading this thread with a similar problem. The problem was that the monitor could display at 1024,768 at 60Hz with the Standard VGA Adapter drivers (MS) but not with the ATI drivers.

I had to boot into low resolution 640,480 mode and change the resolution to 1024,768 at 70Hz to get the monitor to display using the ATI drivers.

    Weird.
Thanks for all your help Slipstreem @ Micromart Forums
