Could you come back in a while (let's say a week) to let us know if swapping the card is really working out for you.

    Thanks!

I've done all the suggestions in this thread already, including switching video cards (from 8600GT to 8800GT) and I have the exact same problem still... Except I don't get the message when playing games, only while watching videos, including on the internet (youtube, etc)! frustrating...

Try updating your Java and/or Flash Players to the latest version.

I get this same debilitating error when I play Diablo 3. It seemed to have started a few months ago after either a windows update, or an nvidia update. Regardless, I've tried using multiple versions of nvidia drivers to no avail. Like Bruntz mentioned, sometimes the error will randomly appear while at other times it's damn near constant. At the moment I haven't been playing other games so I don't know if it would have affected them too, but the error has only occurred during the game and not while browsing the internet or playing media. Believe me when I say I've looked through hours of forums and tried all the methods mentioned in this thread and many more, but frustratingly I have never been able to find a solution. I have also tried the following: a complete reinstall of windows; changing windows registry values; updating every possible driver I could after legitimately removing the previous versions; running the game using various vid settings in both the game and the nvidia control panel; reinstalling the game; running error and stress tests on all the hardware, only to come up "OK!"; and finally performing thorough virus detection in safe mode as a last desperate attempt. At this point if I wasn't on a laptop I would just say screw it and replace the damn card, but alas I am not. If there was an actual fault in the video hardware, wouldn't the error occur all the time while utitilizing it, both in windows and games, rather than periodically?

It's the phantom curse! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!

    ...

Try uninstalling your graphics card in Safe Mode and using Driver Sweeper on the NVIDIA CHipset, Display and PHYSX.
Then reboot and let windows detect the "new" graphics card.
Then reboot again and install 301.42......

    ...

I think NVIDIA should really do something about this. Either they're too lazy or not enough people are complaining...??

I used Driver Sweeper before, but not while in safe mode. I'll try going that route, however given all the other failed attempts I'm going to go out on a limb and say the error will remain. I was also going to comb through more nvidia forums (yet again), but I see that nvidia has suspended their forums since mid July because of "suspicious activity". The plot thickens...

Tried that but the error still came up within 30 seconds of starting gameplay. Very peculiar to note that when I went to nvidia.com to download the newest drivers, it said I already had the most current version of 301.42. However when I clicked download anyway, it downloaded version 296.10. After uninstalling and wiping the registry files in safe mode, I installed the version nvidia gave me. I thought this backstep in versions was odd, so I went back to nvidia and now it says 296.10 is the most current. What the hell is going on over there at nvidia? Nonetheless, the problem remains.

Looks like NVIDIA has screwed up again...

Your best bet is to switch to an AMD card or contact your computer manufacturer

Hello, i have red this thread, and i have/had this same problem, but when i do clean boot i do not receive any error. Can someone tell me how to check which driver is making a problem. Also i have this error when i open multiple tabs in chrome (sometimes not always), or when i watch movie and skip frames, no errors when gaming at all. Also i did dual boot win7 x86 and never had any error at all.
