New build cannot find MSI R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC card
Originally, I had the issue of not being able to power the card at all.
Whenever I hooked up the card to the motherboard AND to the PSU (where the card was getting power from the wire to the PSU), the computer wouldn't turn on.
Only after I unplugged the connections that had to do with the power (wires from the card and the PSU) would it start up. Even then it would take a few times before it would turn on. Something about doing that just makes restarting problematic.
Finally I did the unwise (yet somewhat desperate) thing of hooking up the power to the card while running. So far nothing bad but it's running. The fans are on although it seems a bit loud.
I don't know if that's because I have the covers off or there's no instructions telling it when to run the fan and at what speed so it's at full blast. Just a guess at this point.
However... the computer doesn't know the card is there. I've double checked my connections, made sure the wires are connected but Windows 7 64 can't find it.
I've done the Scan for Changes trick under Device Manager, gone to Window's update, and of course tried to install the driver that came with the the install disk but I get a message saying:
"Live Update 5 support MSI products only"
So to recap:
How can I find my Twin Frozer with Windows 7 64 edition?
Here's my computer specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.1GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 7912MB RAM
This is pretty much my build with the exception of the PSU. I went with the 700 version.
Intel i5-2400, MSI Radeon HD 7850, Cooler Master HAF 912 - System Build - PCPartPicker
Let me know if there's anything else I should provide.
Thanks in advance. I will be back in a few hours so if I don't respond, that's why.
