New W7 user experiencing resolution problems

    This just gets more and more bizarre - there's only a VGA connection on the rear of the monitor honest! I think this monitor is having an identity crisis. As per the label on the rear, it definitely reads AOC N20W as opposed to nvidia reading it as a Toshiba. Hmmm... so would a DVI cable from the PC to a VGA adaptor block on the monitor result in the same digital transmission? I'm so grateful for everybody's help - really I am. I'm beginning to feel like a big ol' pain in the butt to y'all. I'm sure we're close though. It's looking like either my system isn't 7 supported or my monitor isn't - as the monitor showed true 16:10 on XP with the exact same cable set-up...

    That is strange. It certainly said in the specs I was reading that the AOC N20W had a DVI connection.

    No I don't think using another adapter on the other end would make any difference, It would still be an Analogue signal.


    I must admit I am out of ideas, I bet it's something really simple I have overlooked but I just don't know.

    The fact you've taken the time out to care is good enough for me dude. I may not be in the position to until next week, but I'll take my PC along to the tech who installed 7 and see if he can hook it up to a DVI widescreen monitor. Failing that I may look into trading in this Coolermaster PC for a proper Win7 setup. XP is becoming fast out-dated and I really don't wanna have to jump back to it...

    This is a real long shot, but I just wandered if you have unplugged the power to the monitor at all during all of this? If you haven't then you could try this.

    I was reading on the web and stumbled across this, and it got me thinking about your monitor showing as a Toshiba and not what it's supposed to be.

    Quoted from a Microsoft site-

    "To correct the "Generic Non-Pnp Monitor" problem, just turn off the computer and monitor, UNPLUG the power for few minutes so that all the capacitors drain in the circuitry of the monitor. You may want to unplug the video cable as well. Then after few minutes, replug cable and power cord, turn on monitor and reboot computer."

    Like I say, long shot but worth a go.

    Lastly 2 other things I to try.

    In the monitor settings, I know you tried the "Auto" adjust thing, have you checked to see if it is set to the correct Aspect ratio in the settings? Maybe it's reverted to 16:9 and you just haven't seen it.

    And failing that, I read that some pretty old Nvidia drivers might sort it out, I know its a pain for you to download, but these are half the size of the last download, and again worth a shot if all else fails - NVIDIA DRIVERS 186.18WHQL

    Did as you suggested and it remains being read as a Toshiba in the nvidia CC

    How do i find the aspect ratio settings? If on the monitor itself i can't find it in the menu... Oh and btw that Hotfix download - I installed it and it disappeared so installed it again and disappeared. Is there a screen for it or does it just lay around in the background until something happens?

    I guess it doesn't have the option to change it then, are there any screen modes in the monitor menu settings like "wide" or anything else?

    If not then I would try the older Nvidia drivers as a last resort. Unless someone else can come up with anything then I think thats all my ideas done.
    Edit: Oh and if you do install the drivers, restart your PC afterwards.

    No sorry, no options for wide or anything like. Just horizontal and vertical positions. I'll try the driver you suggested. If that doesn't work then I'll just revert back to the latest driver. Thanks for all your help Paul. Defeat sucks huh? I just have a pants system is all :)

I am experiencing a few problems. I'm trying to optimize performance to where it loads fast and doesn't hybernate as much. I'm trying to get it to where i can add spacers between the docked items. Any idea how to accomplish these tasks?
