Windows 7: AMD driver keeps going unresponsive

Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (on laptop)
AMD driver keeps going unresponsive

this is happening on java based games, such as runescape private servers, rs itself, etc.. any ideas?

Couple of question:

1. Are the drivers up to date?
2. When you installed the drivers, at the installation complete screen can you remember if there was a caution symbol orb, or was it green?
3. Is the card overclocked at all?
4. Is Java up to date?
