dvi conversion

I have a question, can the 4 extra pins in a dvi 24+5 pin male connector be eliminated and so it will work when plugged into a 24+1 female connector. I searched Google and got nothing, tried everything I think of. I would appreciate any suggestions or any site that could possibly tell me the information I need. Thank you.
I bought 2 dvi 24+5 to VGA adapter, only a buck a piece, took one apart the best way I new of, by doing that I couldn't tell if it would work or not. If anybody has taken one apart and saw something I didn't I would appreciate if you could answer this question, or maybe tell me where I could find out. Thanks again.

You DVI connector does not support the use of an VGA adapter. You need the four pins around the blade for VGA.

In order for VGA to be supported from DVI you need to have a specific type of DVI (female) connector on your computer. Those four pins that surround the blade on DVI are for analog, if you only have a slot for the blade then your DVI connection is purely digital.
