gtx 660 SLI on asrock z77 extreme 4

Little info on asrock z77 extreme 4:

    Slots: - 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE3: single at x16 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE3) or dual at x8/x8 mode)
    Supports NVIDIA® SLI™

If i run 1 GTX 660 in the main pcie slot and i add another one for SLI, does the processing power or transfer rate of both cards get cut because they will run at x8?

    i have an i7-3770K, a gtx 660 and asrock z77 ext4

    Thanks in advance guys.

In terms of performance, adding a second GTX 660 to your system will only boost by about 90% graphics performance.

The cards processing power or transfer rate won't get "cutted". They will simply work as a regular SLI configuration.

Sir, you said "will only boost performance". is there anything else that could be increased if better cards than 660 run in sli? like 2x670 or 2x680. i know it's not a high-end card, but, do you think it's worth for me to buy another 660 and run them in sli?

    thank you, sir.

sorry, forgot the "only", my mistake.

2x GTX 670 are better than 2x GTX 660 because the GTX 670 is faster than a GTX 660.
If you need more graphics power, adding a second GTX 660 will boost your system a lot. So yes, this will be a nice upgrade.

But keep in mind that some games or applications don't support multi-GPU rendering, so they will use only a GTX 660 to work. In this case, a single fast GPU should be the best choice.

so, what do you need? what applications are you using?

umm, i actually built this computer to run CFD, Autocad, Agisoft and others for work related. they run just fine with this setup for now, and hopefully years ahead. i also play games, that's why i asked about sli configuration. if my card can perform better with sli for years to come, then i'll buy another one.

    thank you very much, sir.

yes, another GTX 660 will boost performance on these applications.

    You're welcome
