HIS Radeon 5770 showing Red LED - Can it be linked to HDD?

    Hi,
I got a new SSD the other day, and didn't realise it didn't come with a SATA cable so i went and bought another one.

Now i plugged in my SSD with the sata cable and power connector and suddenly whenever i turned my computer on, it would go to the AMD graphic screen, then a red light would come on the graphics card and nothing would show (no signal)

So i took the SSD out and so only my HDD was plugged in, but now i get the same issue. I tried to take out the graphics card from the PCI-E slot and clean the heatsink + slot but to no avail.

There are 6 sata ports and previously it was in port 6 (me thinking it was the first one) and i moved it to sataport 1 and still the red light, and moved it back, same red light.

I changed the cable to my NEW one and my hdd PC booted up just fine, with no red light. I thought, oh great its working now, so i turned it off, took power cable out, turned off everythign and plugged in the SSD...RED LIGHT AGAIN!

Theres a cable that comes from the PSU that says SATA on it which has another branch off it with another SATA (which i used to plug into the ssd)

I know this is something to do with the hdd+ssd but i dont know what is causing it sometimes moving bits around get it to boot up fine, but only after many attempts which after restarting iget the same issues

Hope you can help me, it's stressing me out.

If you need any extra info please ask, i will try taking pictures

Sounds like you knocked the power connector to the video card loose, or if using the molex adapter one of them is loose/not connected.

The fan stays running - actually for some reason it starts of extremely loud and very fast, and once past the POST screen and beep, a red light comes on and no video shows

Edit: it also feels like when it gets to the point where it tried to access the harddrive to boot from, then the red led comes on

I just experienced and solved a similar situation. This morning I opened up my PC for regular cleaning and noticed that the plastic case, that protects the fan of the graphic card, was slightly touching a neighbor PCI card, so I got a small piece of plastic and placed it between them, 0.5cm thick, but was enough to get some pressure on the fan (that I did not noticed). Then all the sudden I start getting systems resets followed of black screens and no signal on the monitor.

After a couple of hours of nightmare, I decided to reversed all actions made this morning with no luck, then I noticed a red light in the graphic card, and looked to that small piece of plastic that was still there, I removed it and rebooted... SOLVED!... that small piece of plastic made the protective case to move and prevent the fan to properly spin causing the card to protect itself shutting down the system and turning itself off.

The strange part was that I noticed that the PC (Windows) started but the video was completely off.

This was my experience, but the red light obviously warns that something is wrong with the fan or even with the card itself.

Check that the fans are properly working, free of dust, dirt or other objects that prevents them to properly works.

    Regards
