    video problem on new Gateway

I just purchased a new Gateway DX4300 computer, AMD Phenom II x 4. It has ATI Radeon HD3200 integrated graphics. My monitor is an old one: HP Pavillion F1703. (monitor worked fine on older HP computer running Windows 7 32 bit with Visiontek x1300 video card).
Computer starts to boot into Windows, but then I get message to change resolution to 1280x1064. I have to go into safe mode to change resolution, and when I re-boot, I get same message. How can I get this monitor to work with new computer?

See if there is a driver update for your video card.

I downloaded latest ATI Catallyst drivers. Uninstalled old drivers, re-booted, installed new drivers. When computer re-booted I got same message:
Video resolution out of range. change to 1280x1064. I had to re-boot into safe mode and disable the video card. The computer will not run any of Win 7 screen savers and also won't go into sleep mode. Also no Aero functions.
    What can I try now?
I don't want to buy a new monitor. I have two othe rHP f1703 monitors sitting unused.

Your Monitors Max resoulution is 1024x768x75 according to HP. What has happened is that Windows has identified the monitor an non Plug n' Play and incorrectly selecting resolutions that your monitor doesn't support.

Re-enable the video card and reboot.

Hold F8 then select Enable Low Resolution mode (640x480). That allows windows to boot at a low res with full driver support so you can enter widows and change the resolution to 1024x768@75Hz. Then go to HP and download the appropriate monitor driver. This will tell windows what the max resolution is, so this won't happen again.

    Similar Issue

It looks like you guys resolved this issue relatively quickly, so I'm coming for advice also. I purchased a new HP Pavilion desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I have a HP f1703 monitor that I don't want to replace if I don't have to. I get the same resolution error from the monitor that you referenced. Tried the video card driver update, and mine is the "latest and greatest." When I try to follow the steps above, I can't find any drivers on the HP site for the f1703 for Windows 7 64-bit (32-bit either, for that matter). The newest OS I can find drivers for is XP. Grasping at straws, I tried it, it didn't work. Did I miss something? Are there drivers for this monitor for Win 7 somewhere that I have missed?

    Hi
If you check the post by Rikk55 on 5/20/2010- you will find instructions to fix the problem. I've printed it out and saved it in my documents, just to make sure, If I have the problem again. It worked and solved my problem.

the f1703 is not 75Hz, it's 60Hz. I fixed this problem (with the same model gateway and monitor) by booting into a lower resolution, then going to:

    control panel
    screen resolution
    advanced settings
    monitor tab

then changed 75Hz to 60Hz and it worked. I just hope it works when I restart and the PnP kicks in.

    edit:

yep still works. thanks for the help Rik55.
