bit of a screen resolution problem

    Hello all,

I have a bit of a screen resolution problem. It just seems to be a bit sretched, and I only have two options to switch my resoltion to, neither of them helping.

My graphis card is a ATI Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory (Integrated graphics). I'm not sure how to fix it, I've tried seeing about updating the drive, but that doesn't seem to work.

    Thanks ahead of time

Buy a new card, that's about all you can do (in my knowledge) to gain more resolution options. Your card, being integrated, isn't the best and doesn't have that much option.

Beyond that, what's the native resolution of your monitor? And what size is it? Is it a laptop?

There's no need to buy a new card, not that you can do that anyways since you're most likely on a laptop. Use Powerstrip to set up a custom resolution and refresh rate. The new resolution should appear in the screen resolution slider after a quick reboot.

I have a similar card in one of my test machines and was offered two resolutions only - 800x600 & 1024x768 until I used Powerstrip.

P.S.: What version of ATi drivers have you installed on your system?

Thanks for letting me know about that program, but your link isn't going anywhere.

Sorry about that. The "http" prefix kept getting deleted by the WYSIWYG editor for some reason. Anyhow, I've hyperlinked to the latest release version now. Check it out.

Hey, thanks again for fixing the link, though it is preferred if you don't link directly to the file, just to the page with the file information, could you please change that? Thanks!

Looks like a good program except for these things.

    1. It's shareware.
    2. By using it, if you're not careful, you could easily blow up your display.

So yeah, I wouldn't recommend it to any normal user.

The settings available in the Screen Resolution center are the ones that your graphics card is recommended to use, using anything else could like I said, result in permanent damage to your display, or the card.

    Thanks to those helpful replies.

And to answer some questions, yes I am on a laptop, a dell Inspiron 1501, which means i really can't buy a new graphics card, or I would definitly do that.

And this power strip program, how would it ruin my desktop permantly?

I'd love to fix the resolution, I mean its not completely bad where I cant read it, its just slightly stretched, causing it to look some-what blurry.

The values that are available in your resolution section are the values that have been tested to work with that card (if you have all the proper drivers installed) and are the recommended settings. By messing around with that you could overtax your graphics chip, causing it to fail. Or you could mess around with the refresh rate, which would overtax your monitor, causing it to fail.

I just took a look at the available drivers for your model, it's older and the pickings are slim. Here's something that looks like the latest from your manufacturer, you might try it.

    Drivers and Downloads

If that doesn't work, then you may be out of luck as far as Windows 7 drivers occur for your model.
