Without sounding daft, I thought the VGA connection was completely separate from the HDMI and DVI-D ports on the graphics card. Three separate slots at the back of the tower/graphic card.Power supply isn't the problem. The problem is that you are using the VGA connection on the card, which shares the output with the HDMI connection making that you can only use one or the other at one time.
I usually hook up my monitor using the HDMI to DVI slot. Changed it in order to use the HDMI to TV.One bit of good news though, from looking at the specs for your Asus monitor,
it should have come with a HDMI to DVI cable, which you can use to connect to the monitor's HDMI port and the video card's DVI port, which will then make the HDMI port on the card available for your TV.
