alright heres what ive found out. i tried it on both my mom's computer and mine. whats its doing is detecting the card, then not able to find it. but it comes up as "standard VGA Adapter" but then dissapears. the adpater also has a usb port, and when i plug a usb into it, it recognizes it. and stayes there. but then when i plug in the GPU, it comes and goes reallt fast. it does this for both computers. so now im starting to think its a problem with the GPU or adapter. im going to try a friends GPU to see, but idk for sure.
I can't think of how to troubleshoot. The whole idea of eGPU, while very cool, is beyond me. If I recall the guy in the video also had some issues getting it to work initially.
so i think its the adapter. i pluged my friends OLD OLD OLD GPU into it and it dident even recognize it. also it keeps comming up as corrrupted then fine, then corrupted then fine. when it refreshes and comes up as good, it came up as standard vga adapter, and i was abale to install the driver. but then it dissconnected and dident work
alright so im very reasonably convinced that it is the adapter, since its flickering and coming up as not identified. so im going to return that and get a new one. if that still does the same thing, then im going to return the GPU, and if it still no work, ill work on it bit more, then give up lol. the instructions for how to do it put out by the company show my laptop series specifically, so it should work!
With such an uncommon mod you're trying, it is very easy to miss a step, connection, etc. If you have a voltmeter you could check your PSU and see that it is working.
Is the card recognized in BIOS? If so disable the onboard graphics, if you haven't done so. Also check for a driver update for onboard.
Just a thought, try refreshing your WEI.
FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE PSU WAS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TO POWERFULL AT 6A!!!! the adapter requires 3A. so i got it installed and everything, however now im getting BSOD and windows memory allocation error. but theres a work around for that and im searching it now.
so im trying to install the pe4h and ati radeon 6670, and i get it fully installed and everything is good. however in order to connect it without getting BSOD i have to disable my internal ATI Card. i then can connect it and do what i want. but nothing is being displayed nor am i able to run WIE. it tells me a driver is preventing it from running. but all drivers are successfully installed. also my OC utility shows the 6670 and all its specs, however i cant do anything with it. i tried to install ALL ati drivers, and when i go to startup CCC it just tells me that there is no compatable hardware. ive tried with 6gb of ram and 2gb and 3gb of ram.
im doing this on a Dell Studio 1458
when BSOD comes up it says that atikpmg.sys was not stopped correctly.
any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome!
getting error code 12 now. but thats after i disable the internal then connect 6670
ive been searching for this, anyone wanna join in and see what you can find?
edit:
but then when i restart with it connected, it is installed fine, but still no picture nor do any programs recognize its connected.
can anyone help?
