Why am I having white screen?

My HP laptop does boot but a white screen shows up. After a while the screen gradually turns black and some blue and green vertical lines shows up. I know something is wrong with the graphic card but I had the same issue with my acer laptop 2 months. Why the laptops am I using keep getting damaged graphic cards? My acer laptop was 4 years old but I used to play games on it so it kinda makes sense why the graphics card broke. Although my HP laptop is 8 years old (since the year Vista was released) but this laptop was only used for office work e.g. Internet and Office 2010 and gaming at all. So can someone tell why I have this curse?

Hardware components degrade independantly of what you use them for.

4 years for a laptop with a GPU that gets stressed a lot and 8 years for a laptop with a gpu that doesn't get stressed as much makes perfect sense.

    No computer lasts forever.
If you want longevity, you should consider a desktop computer instead.

I have a desktop and I love it but when I go abroad I need a laptop. That's why I am struggling to find a durable laptop. To bad that both laptops broke within 2 months. Now I am stuck with my iPhone.

See, you never specified they broke after 2 months.

And you said they are 4 and 8 years? did you buy them used? or have you been dealing with the problems 4 and 8 years? It doesn't make sense to me right now.
