    9800GT now reading as 9800GX2 ??

    Hi guys.

I am currently experiencing some issues with my 9800GT gfx card, i am currently running 2 of them in sli and have been working great for the last past 4 years.

until yesterday when i rebooted my computer windows 7 loaded up but my resolution was messed up and was at 800x600 and my graphics drivers seemed to disappear somehow, so i ended up downloading the nvidia drivers latest and now one of my cards reads as "9800 GX2" while the other reads fine still as "9800 GT"

these cards are 100% identical, and now i cannot run SLI no more.

iv been running tests all day today and nothing seems to fix the damn thing,

iv tried flashing the bios using the other cards bios, but no fix,

done clean install of the nvidia drivers, nothing.

iv swapped cards from top to bottom and vice versa same thing nothing changes.

tried the 2 cards separate but the 9800GX2 still reads as that ?

i've just had about enough with it.

can someone please tell me how to rectify this problem ? cheers.

    computer specs:

    p5n-e sli board

    quad core intel Q9550

    4GB ddr2 ram

    windows 7 64bit

    2x 9800GT gfx

Try clearing CMOS and resetting motherboard BIOS.

    I found this: 9800 GT thinks it's a 9800 GX2? - AnandTech Forums
It seems to be a driver problem. Have you tried to install different versions of drivers?

    thanks for the reply.

i reseted my bios settings and installed a old driver that i knew was working fine. but i still get the same result one card still showing 9800gx2 ?

last thing i remember before restarting my computer is there was a few windows 7 updates which i did then ended up restarting my computer, but i checked the updates and they were like hotfixes for win 7 and IE 10 update.

    out of ideas ?

could the card be dead ? it works though ?

try restoring Windows with a system restore point, before you installed these updates.

    Strange...

A 9800 GX2 is a single package of 2x9800 GT... Check if you have got performance drops in games...

only one card works, the specs are identical as the 9800GT, thats the problem i cannot run both in sli only one. -_-

weird issue not sure, im going to try the card on another PC and see what happens.

    I'm curious as to where it's displaying that it's a 9800 GX2?

In device manager, nvidia configuration, hence this is why i cannot set both cards into SLI no more.

    and even gpu-z.

but the specs of both cards identical, well they have to be since they are the both same cards, same brands, same colour.

its got my head confused as to why all of a sudden it picks up as a 9800gx2.
