Unable to access my bios after installing the Asus HD 6670

    Hello,

I'm new around here and pretty new to working on my own PC. I installed the new card and it works fine,But I would like to run it in dual graphics mode with my AMD A10 5800K APU. Since installing the card when I try and access my bios the screen stays black and I have to reboot the computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Marc :)

Since this is a pre-built system from Gateway, I am not sure how much you can do for it. Here are the specs for the board: aahd3-vc mainboard specs

What you would be talking about is called Hybrid crossfire using the onboard chip and the dedicated graphics card. this can only be done with certain setups. Most likely, this mobo since it is a generic OEM board, it won't be able to set up.

    GPU-8: ATICrossFire

Hybrid ATI CrossFire™ Platform(Onboard GPU + 1 discrete GPU) Requirements:
    • The requirements of a ATI Hybrid CrossFire system are:
      • ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series, ATI Radeon™ HD 3400 Series or ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3400 Series graphics processor
        • ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 supports only ATI Hybrid CrossFireX™ technology and ATI SurroundView™ technology.
      • A motherboard based on an AMD 780G or AMD 790GX integrated chipset
      • Windows Vista®
More info would be helpful. can you download Speccy and CPUID and post screenshots from them so we know what bios you are using and chipsets that are being used. also, if your integrated graphics is not visible here, get GPU-Z to see what gpu's are showing up (this should show the integrated and dedicated by selecting from a dropdown menu)

Ok so looks like the APU should work with the 6570 and 6670:

AMD A8-3850 APU Review: Llano Hits the Desktop - Page 7

In short, the graphics controllers on the A8 (HD 6550D IGP) and A6-series (HD 6530D IGP) processors are compatible with any AMD graphics card based off of the Turks and Caicos cores (HD 6670, HD 6570 and HD 6450)
BIOS issue is most likely due to needing an update for the dual graphics setup. Are you getting a blank screen if the video is plugged into the mobo instead of the HD6670?

I'm a little confused. Your system specs say you have a desktop but the motherboard seems to be from a laptop? Do you have the model of that Gateway machine?

I know sometimes the access to BIOS button is different depending on the motherboard. Are you sure your pressing the right button? If not you could press PAUSE to literally pause the boot process on that screen so that you can read the button descriptions.

You could also try to reset your CMOS by removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard, wait 15 minutes and replace.

@bulletng, i thought the same thing from my link, it was the only place I could find the spec's. OEM boards are notoriously hard to find info on. I am pretty certain this is a desktop as he is trying to install a full dedicated graphics card :) other than that, i think the graphics might not be going through the GPU when going into bios, so he is not getting video out. hopefully he gets in through the video port on the back panel of motherboard.

Good suggestion on resetting the BIOS as well.

When I looked into buy the PC I looked into weather or not it could run crossfire and was told it could. I have found some other post on here now where people have had the same issue and they took out the battery but also had to switch the jumper from 1 and 2 over to 2 and 3 then back to 1 and 2 does this seem right?
I can't access the bios so the issue I'm having has to do with that more then setting up the crossfire I guess and that wouldn't be the motherboard? Cause the motherboard is compatible with the card.

So you can access the BIOS with one AMD card, but not with Crossfire? I think we're going to require more information to further diagnose your issue. Follow Thorsen's suggestions in his first post

I'm not really familiar with the new AMD series, but can't you enable Crossfire within the Catalyst Control Center rather than the BIOS?

No when I try to access the the bios since I installed the card it just a black screen. the AMD A10 5800K is also an upgrade from the Amd A6 the PC came with and that worked just fine on its own. I got that a few months back. I guess im gonna try to reset the bios and see what happens

Are you trying to crossfire two Asus HD 6670's and are you using the Crossfire cable (if you still require those these days)?
