GTX 660 not recognized in x16 only in x8 slot

Haven't seen anyone replied to this thread as yet. I checked the CPU and heatsink and they both seem fine. Still haven't tried the card in another system so..guess i'm stuck at x8 then.

Testing it in another system and trying another card in the top slot is the only way to know for sure.

The part of the UEFI that you show in your screenshots is for setting the speed of the PCIe slots. The options should be Auto, Gen1, Gen2, and Gen3. For a 660 that setting should be Auto or Gen3.

To Enable/Disable the onboard graphics that setting should be under Onboard Devices Configuration under the Advanced Tab.

Warning: be sure you have read and know how to reset the UEFI/BIOS from the button on the motherboard before doing this. If you disable the onboard graphics and the card still does not work you will get nothing but black. You will not be able to see the UEFI settings to change them back.

Since you got both of these, the mobo and card, at the same time, it is a little difficult to tell which one could be faulty. If changing the settings in the BIOS and drivers etc don't work, then it could be either component. I couldn't find anything on how to test the GPU other than testing it in another rig. If you have a PC shop nearby, they might have a bench machine they could stick it in to see if it shows up at 16x

Otherwise, there is something you can test for the pci-e slot with a multimeter/voltmeter, or get a pci-e slot tester (just search google and you can find them. not sure if you can get one in Trinidad) :

For a little more money and it might be more readily available, you could purchase a really cheap x16 card and see if it boots properly in that slot. Also, if you have the card in the x16 slot, do you hear any beeps on POST?

Thank you guys for the suggestions, I am currently away from home but as soon as i get back i want to test the card on another system. But from what I have seen so far, as far as games go the card has been performing exceptional running everything at high or ultra settings. What's the main difference between the x8 and x16 slot and would it really affect visual performance?

Does it run perfectly fine in the 2nd slot for your needs? Use Fraps and see, if the frame rate is always 30+ in max settings in all the games you care about, you are golden.

Then I would just let it ride in that slot, end of story and check ASUS occasionally for motherboard BIOS update notes.

The 660 was likely not out when that motherboard was in the testing stages, so issues like this, not a shocker at all.

With Battlefield 3 i get 60+ fps so far and all settings are on ultra. Crysis also runs on max settings and no tearing or lag that i notice.
