2 Graphics Cards - Not Detecting Both

Ok here goes my first thread.

I run a Nvidia GTX 275 Works flawlessly even if i use both ports on the back to use dual monitors.

If however i plug my Nvidia 8800GT in the second PCI-E x16 Slot the computer only recognizes the 8800GT which is in the second port and there is no GTX 275 showing in the Device Manager or Boot Menu.

So basically i plug in my second video card and my primary card just vanishes from the computer like its not even there.

Has anyone got an idea what could be the cause of this?

I have checked the drivers and its the same drivers at the moment for the 8800GT and the GTX 275.

I want to be able to run my 19" Widescreen Monitor on my GTX 275 and use my 8800GT Card for my tiny 15" Screen so i can play Games on my Primary card and be able to have Website open and viewable all the same.

(I'm not trying to run SLi as i know you need 2 of the same GPU and your motherboard needs to be able to support it, I don't like SLi so its all good so far.)

I've tried many things but now i'm out of ideas and i'm here asking for help.

Kind Regards,
Krimian.

Welcome to the Seven Forums

Well only thing I can think of quickly off the top of my head is your power supply.

I've done a quick search of your PSU, and if I'm looking at the right one, how are you setting up your graphic cards? Your PSU only has one 6 pin PCI-E connector, and the GTX275 has two 6 pin ports on it, and the 8800GT requires a 6 pin connector in it, too.

So when you plug the 8800GT in, the GTX275 isn't getting enough power with only the one 6 pin connector powering it.

That's only if I'm looking at the right PSU. I've looked at it on a few websites and they all say it just has 1 6 pin connector, or are you powering it with molex-to-6 pin?

Yeah i'm using the Molex-to-6pin to power the 8800GT.

That sounds like a reasonable problem.....

This is my PSU: 700W EZCool Infinity pPFC Low Noise ATX v2.2 Dual +12v Rails 2.1 SATA/PCIE Ready 12cm Fan - Scan.co.uk

It says it has 1x 6-pin PCI-E connector but in fact i do have 2 as thats whats powering my GTX 275.

I suppose if that is the definete problem i could upgrade to this as it does seem ok.

But my current PSU must definetly be listed wrong as it does have 2x 6pins.

I don't think it is the PSU, then. 700 watt should be enough to power a GTX275 and an 8800GT.

Well i do hope i can get some help to get this issue resolved, I had no plan to use Dual Monitors but i've gotten used to it now and would love to be able to use a second GPU to power my Secondary monitor.

Lets hope for more help.

Thanks,
Krimian.

Plug in both of your monitors to the GTX 275. 2nd GPU unnecessary. If your second monitor only uses VGA connection, use a DVI-VGA adapter.

I was just trying to figure out why it wouldn't recognize the GTX 275 when i plugged my 8800GT in.

Truth be told it is your cheap power supply that I can't find a single review that has much good to say about any EZCool (made by JSP-Tech) PSU.

700 watt should be enough
Only when it really is a 700W PSU. Most of what I can find about his PSU say you're lucky if it performs as well as a good quality 400W.
