The 5 series are old now, you either want a 6 or wait til the 7 series comes out, personally, You should go for a 660 or higher if you can afford it.

Hi many thanks, as for cost I have gone for a Gainwood Geforce GTX 580 Phantom 3072MB card, next month I may add another.
A 580 SLI setup should keep you gaming at high for quite a while. Enjoy mate :)
From memory, x2 cards are 'always on SLI/CF'. The mobo would have seen the cards - maybe have allowed 3-way SLI (not sure though) but the 4'th core would be unused, if the 2nd card was allowed to be SLIed to begin with. I vaguely recall people having lots of dramas with x2 295's and getting the second card active.
OP chose the best option.
