which should i get pcie adapter or pcie mini adapter?

Could the "mini" actually be a "low profile" card? Slim design cases (also called compact cases) will not accept standard height cards and must use the "low profile" type.
PCIE cards come in full and half height for full and compact cases. These cards can have connectors that reach out the back of the case - like a video card.
PCIE mini cards also come in full and half height - but they fit in slots like this:
