That may not be the case if your monitor only has a VGA input. In that case you can only use a VGA input. It does not have to be told what type signal it is going to get because it can only receive 1 type
Like you said, mine only has the one input on the monitor side, and that is indeed a VGA port.

AS far as I know, If you use an adaptor it Should make no difference, but some adaptors have problems with the transition from one type of signal to another. I would use whatever type works best for you and your monitor.
Im using a DVI-I to VGA adaptor currently and that is what is causing these weird uneven lines on dark colours (grey and black) and hense why I thought switching to a HDMI - VGA cable would solve the problem. Alas I am now on the hunt for a DVI-I - VGA cable so that I can remove the adaptor and hopefully get rid of the this problem :)

Buy a VGA to DVI cable and your problem should be solved
Hey kLN93 and everyone who has done this fix. So I swapped out my adaptor for a DVI to VGA cable and loan behold the problem was gone. How ever this has caused a new one xD, did any of you have a problem with ghosting when just using the cable? It is quite bad in the corners of my monitor and I didnt have this problem before when using the adaptor and cable??

Nothing can ever be a simple fix...
