Glitches in Worms Clan Wars (Old Video Card, Can I make it work??)

Totally stupid problem, but I'm an old fan of the "Worms" series and want to get the new one running on my laptop. It's just barely below the requirements video-card wise and after much tinkering I've managed to get the game to run (instead of crash or lock-up my computer) by jumping through some hoops to get the Catalyst Control Center to take precedence over the onboard video. So now the game launches and looks great until I actually start a game. At that point, I get weird little graphical glitches like this:

These are the options I have in the Catalyst Control Center:

I've tried playing with them and all the in-game video settings, and I always get the above glitches. I am guessing it's because my video card is just a bit below the requirements (ATI Radeon HD 3670). But I dunno -- was hoping I could get it to run. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks.

Hi boggeyb, Welcome to Seven Forums

Have you tried to update your video card drivers? If not, update them. Also, try to reduce the settings from the game graphic options and then check.

Hi, there. Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, I have updated both the last solid release from AMD (2012) and a beta (2013) -- same problem on both.

Unfortunately, the game has relatively limited options but I have turned the settings all the way down. Oddly, that seems to have little effect. The game runs mostly fine except for those odd graphic glitches in the first screenshot, even with the settings higher. My video card is about a generation lower than the recommended requirements for the game, but seeing as how it runs that far, I was just hoping there was a way I could tweak it -- either with the Catalyst Control Center options (second screenshot) or some other way.

I was thinking it was an OpenGL or vsync or anti-aliasing issue, but I dunno about this stuff. I tried messing with all of that to no avail.

In this case I will suggest you to go for the minimum required card for the game. Or borrow a high end card from your friends and install that in your machine and check, if the issue is with the card or any other hardware.

    Barely below the requirements....

    That says it all.

Use Task Manager to set the priority of the running .exe to high, see if that helps.

Hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc to bring up Task Manager directly, right click the game's.exe in the Processes tab and select Priority and set to High.

Other things, defrag the hard drive on the laptop, try some free tweaking tools from mztweak.com, use the backup registry tool, FIRST!

Eliminate all the CPU wasteful things, like services running in the background that are NOT needed, remove all not needed icons from the desktop itself, go with classic theme, go with performance settings for the video, whatever it is and Windows 7 in general.

I can easily spend 2 hours tweaking out a system.

    Good luck, barely under.....

*OP stated this was for a laptop, not worth the external GPU hassles/expense for a Worms game I don't think, compatibility not likely any way. :)
