XFX 8500GT will not support Aero?

Hey, I'm a new guy. With Windows 7 around the corner I decided to start house cleaning to get ready for the clean install(I'm the guy that's always late to the party). After running Windows upgrade Advisor, all the big things checked out except Windows Aero support. It says my graphic adapter won't support it but I have a XFX 256MB 8500GT card that supports Direct X 10..so what's the deal?

Also, so not to make two threads. Would it be even worth it to install 64 over 32 on my system after a 4GB ram upgrade?

I do not believe that your card can handle Aero. Not enough memory probably.

Yes, the x64 is worth it.

Minimum Hardware Requirements for running Windows 7 Aero:
    # 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    # 1 GB of RAM
    # 128 MB graphics card

Aero also requires a DirectX 9 class graphics processor that supports a Windows Display Driver Model Driver, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, and 32 bits per pixel. You can also refer Windows 7 hardware requirements to know more.

Seems as if yours should be able to. You could install it and try.

I'm aware of the requirements, it's the reason I'm so lost as to why I'm not getting the OK by Advisor. I don't want to just try as it would mean creating a dual boot in case it does not work and I have to use XP until I upgrade the card.

You can always create a dual boot then delete it... No harm in trying.

So even at 3gb, 64bit is giving you good results?

Also, no one can figure out my problem?
I kinda leaning that it might be Advisor getting a false read on my graphic card for some reason.

You should be ok with the Win7 install, you just won't have the AREO interface. It will default to "basic" style. You can upgrade your card anytime.

x64 definitely, Ram can be 2GB (minimum for x64) but 4gb is better.

    Happy computing.

I guess I'll have to do a trial to see if it really will or won't support Aero and at worst buy a new card. But could the problem be that Advisor isn't seeing the total memory of the video card?

I'm on XP 32bit which only sees 3.2gb of Ram but I have a total for 3.25gb of Ram(2x 1gb + 2x 512 + 256mb from the graphic card), so could this be the problem?
That advisor isn't actually seeing the full 256mb of my video card?
