Radeon 6800 gpu running extremely hot

I have a Radeon 6800 series gpu, and according to speed fan, under moderate gaming it's reaching temperatures of 150F+
I have all the fans in my system running at 80%, and my tower is in a well ventilated area.

any suggestions? is that a safe temp?

Hmm, gpu do get hot while gaming, but take out your graphics card and see if there is dust or any thing stuck in the gpu fan which is not letting is run at speed it has too.

That works out to 65°C which is actually quite low for a GPU under load. Nothing to worry about. In comparison my 780 hits 80°C under load.

I agree with Boozad and madcratebuilder, you should start to worry when the gpu temp gets into the 90C+ range, have fun gaming!

I have a 6870, mine reaches as high when gaming to 75c to 82c. Your fine, you should worry if its those temps when idle or if its close to 90c. These temps are normal for Gpus. They can take a lot of heat unlike CPUs, if it was a CPU then I would be worried because that would be extremely hot for a CPU.

If it still bothers you those temps then you could make a aggressive fan profile with Msi after burner. If it interest you I could tell you how once I get home since its harder to show how typing this from my phone. Anyways if you have questions feel free to ask me in this thread or send me a pm through the forum.

I have a 6870 and it can ramp up to 85c+

The temps you are asking about Is normal every day gaming temps unless it is so intense the gpu can't keep up

That particular 6800 series is one of the sturdiest models I have seen

I'm guessing you have the Reference blower fan model Solarstarshines?

For anyone concerned about the temps of the GPU they may want to look at the "Sapphire" line of AMD GPU's. Sapphire has what they call "Vapor-X" cooling technology. It certainly appears to work very well, my 7770's would reach mid 80's with a long torture test, my new 7950 peaks at 59C, the fans are only 60-65%. I was impressed enough to order a second 7950 for crossfire.

I can backup madcratebuilder's view on Sapphire GPU coolers as I myself have a Sapphire Dual-X 7850 and mine runs between 49-60C depending on the gpu load and my fans never go over 40% fan speed.
