ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 drivers not working

I recently decided to reinstall Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 4745G laptop with Switchable Graphics. After installing drivers with the Acer Resource DVD, I rebooted and thought everything was fine. But after checking Device Manager, I saw that my High-Performance GPU, which is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, was reporting an error (Code 43). So now I am currently stuck with the Power-Saving GPU which is Intel(R) HD Graphics. Everytime I try to switch to the other GPU, I am greeted with a black screen. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Hi kurisu419,

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

It seems video driver was not installed properly. You should remove any installed video drivers and then download from the link below:

    AMD Catalyst

It would be advisable you remove both the video driver from the system and then first install the integrated one and then AMD one.

    Hope it helps.

Hi I have just read all the forums and just discovered a thing about acer aspire 4745G laptop graphics :) .. I just observed that there are two VGA on this type of laptop

1st ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 5470
    2nd (Intel) HD GRAPHICS

I tried installing and re-installing the ATI Mobility graphic card for many times .. but black screen alaways appears on windows log.on screen .now this idea I want to share

go to Start - Control Panel look for Device Manager - Display Manager ..
as you can see there are two standard VGA graphics .
to see which is ATI and Intel Graphics you must do this

right click the VGA graphics and update the driver (use it automatically :) )
do it with the other one too ..don't restart immediately .

when you already know the ATI MOBILITY RADEON GRAPHICS then right click it for its properties and please disable it .. just let the (Intel) HD GRAPHICS do his job then restart ..

I will be glad if this idea of mine also will ease your ATI graphic suffer :)

    Hi iampao,

    Welcome to Seven forums.

Thanks for sharing this details with us. However, doing this would disable the ATI graphic card. Reason most of these systems are shipped with 2 graphic cards so that they can divide the work.

Most graphic extensive applications use the ATI one and usual less extensive ones use the Intel one.

This could be a work around but would not be applicable for the people who purchased systems to use graphic extensive application as well.

I am sure most of the ATI recent drivers have resolved the issue and if not and system is under warranty. it is better to get the graphic card replaced.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.
