    Generic Non-Pnp Monitor, won't go to 1920x1080

Third thread I've started, still don't know which forum I should be in, so I'm trying them all. My monitor on my laptop is stuck in 1280x1024, even though it was in 1920x1080 a few days ago. My computer had to be reset back to factory settings because of a virus. So I've combed through these forums looking for answers, found some people who had similar problems, tried what they did, nothing has worked. Hopefully I can get a solution from here.
    Thanks in advance.
Also, I have a button on my numpad that would open up the calculator, but it no longer does that. Maybe they did something to each laptop before putting them in the box? It's an Asus G74S with 16GB of Memory instead of 12GB. If that can information can help at all.

Good thinking WJ am glad you put your education first mate as take it from an old fellow these are the best years of your life and what makes you the person you become and want to be.
I didn't start seriously learning until I was 40 and it was a hard slog to do that and in hindsight I was a fool to not make the most of my formative years.

The symptoms (low resolution, special keys not working) suggest you have missing drivers after factory recovery. AddRAM gave the link to Asus support in his post above, I recommend you download and install at least chipset, video and audio drivers.

Just got back home, turned on laptop and screen resolution is fixed... Guys, you're all magical. Don't know what happened, but don't care, just hope this never happens again. Thanks everyone!
