changed cable...now desktop too big for screen

    weird weird issue

have a new alienware...worked great out of the box hooked up to a Vizio 32'' lcd tv (Vizio VW32L HDTV40A )

went away for two days and shut it down. just put it on. no picture-its a cheapo hdmi cable so i instead use a better cable i have lying around. picture now appears but desktop too big (bottom toolbar half off screen and left side of desktop about half inch off the side).

been playing with settings for two hours with no luck.

alienware has a direct hdmi output i am using which appears to be controlled by the intel graphcs chip.

there is also a nvidia graphics card with html output. i can use this and use the nvidia settings to manually fit the image to the screen so it fits, but it doesn't look correct (too stretched out).

is there another solution here? so confused since it worked absolutely fine before i shut down the system.

    thanks!!!!!!

I would check the screen modes of the TV, see if you have an overscan setting, or maybe it's set for 4:3 instead of 16:9.

Go into the Graphics settings and check for Monitor overscan and change that till it looks right, if that doesent cut it go on the monitor settings and check for overscan there otherwise i dont really know, If you have and amd card and the software dont allow you to change overscan you have to go into Regedit and enable it somewhere, tell me if the overscan isnt enabled and cant be enabled and i'll help you

    Hi bennfine,

    Welcome to Seven forums.

Intel graphic card is for basic functions on the system. Nvidia one is for the graphic extensive functions like gaming and high definition videos.

Open the Intel Control Panel and you can set the custom aspect ration and screen resolution as well:

You can customize to accordingly to fit it to the screen. Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

The manual for your TV indicates PC connection using a VGA connector, which has a max resolution of 1366x768 (720p). There is no setting for an HDMI connection regarding 1:1 or overscanning. So my guess would be connecting a PC via HDMI cable is beyond this TV's capability.
