Did windows 7 recovery disk, now monitor is completely black

    First post!

Hi, I did a system recovery to get a fresh start because a lot of memory was being taken up. So I did it. Then, maybe 30 minutes later, the monitor went black. I thought it was just restarting, so i left it. It kept like that. The laptop was accidentally closed so it shut off. My cpu screen is broken so I can only see things with the monitor. it says there is no signal to the computer.

It's likely that the laptop is defaulting to the laptop screen and not outputting a signal to your external monitor. What is the make and model of your laptop?

Also, does your laptop have a function button on the keyboard to activate an external screen? Some laptops have one, but please post the make/model of your machine for us.
