    5770 or GTX 260 - I think I know the answer

I have been looking at the GTX260 for a while now. I just went to buy one and these 5770 cards offer quite a bit more (HDMI, display port, DX-11 to name a few) for the same or less money. You video card experts tell me if I'm looking at this right. I don't know much about this matter.

Am I better off going with a 5770? I hear the drivers are not up to Nvidia's standards. I have LOVED Nvidia drivers over the years. Am I going to regret buying this card. (thinking about a Sapphire 5770, but it looks like they are all 1GB GDDR5 cards)

    Thanks

The ATI card is the better of the 2 IMO and I'm an Nvidia guy that just sold 2 9800gt's and purchased the Evga 260 supeclocked.Which I love, but compared to the 5770 with DX11 and gddr5 their in different leagues. Their are other things i consider when I buy a gpu. Warranty, Evga has lifetime, stepup and cross shipping. Plus it's now on sale at tigerdirect with Batman download. I just purchased the Sapphire 5770 1GB 5DDR and watched the ladybug demo in Directx 11. I would say it will suit me well. The only reason I went with ATI this time around, my Mobo has AMD chipset. It seems the driver is still a little buggy atm, I am hoping they continue to improve the driver. I had the display not response last night and got a warning.

    General:

Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I have my build specs filled in, that will give you more info on my build.

Try the ATI Catalyst 9.10 driver that was released last week if you haven't already done so. It cleared up a bunch of atikmdag errors for me.

This is the lastest driver I am currently using, if this is ATI Catalyst 9.10.

The "stopped responding and has recovered" error has plagued both ATI and Nvidia on Vista (and I guess W7?) for a while now. The are all sorts of speculations on causes and fixes. Do a Google search on the error and hundreds of threads will pop up, including some here and on the Vista forums.

I myself had this error under Vista with an ATI HD3870 card, but it turned out the card was failing and once replaced it (ATI HD4850) I never had the problem again, but that was my fix

Hopefully you can find a fix if it continues. Good luck

As for the original poster's question, I only know ATI, so... :)

If you haven't already bought it make sure you get a card that comes with Dirt 2.

Yeah, I have already begun my search and googled it. I am in the process of trying to find a fix. I just purchased the card from Newegg. I already sent one card back because it was DOA. It was a different ATI card, the 4850. I figure my Power supply should be sufficient, the corsair 650watt, it is listed in my specs.

The 650w Corsair is a good power supply, just remember it's not the wattage it's the Volts on the 12v rail that counts. Fabe
