If you want me to make a suggestion on how to install, download the latest Catalyst driver Suite from ATI's site. Extract to C:\ATI by running it. Close the installer right after it extracts.

In the device manager, for bot cards, right click on them, choose properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results to here. I'll edit the .inf for you and you could then replace the one in C:\ATI with mine.

torrentg .. here's the info you requested. it looks a little odd to me. seeing that the x1550 has a lot more entries.

VisionTek Radeon HD 2400 pro =
pci\ven_1002&dev_94cc&subsys_36501545

X1550
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7183&SUBSYS_0D021028&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7183&SUBSYS_0D021028
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7183&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7183&CC_0300

No guarantees it will actually work, but in theory, this is your best chance.

Download my attachment and use the .inf inside to copy and paste over the original you have in C:\ATI

Make sure it asks you if you want to "copy and replace" - Choose that.

Then boot to safe mode and do for each card the following:

In device manager: Right click on it. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse.

Now navigate to C:\ATI where the .inf you placed there is and double click on it. Hit ok. Finish installing.

(Don't forget to do for other card too.)

Then reboot to normal mode and see if the drivers are working for each card.

TorrentG, I had a few questions.
1) when I take out the PCIe card my machine STILL wont recognize the PCI card alone, how can that be?
2) Which one is the WDDM1.1 card?
3) would it help to replace the x1550 card with a newer PCIe card?

3 - Yes. If you have an available PCI-e slot with enough psu horsepower (meaning if power supply is large enough electronically speaking), purchasing any ATI HD line of cards will work very well and most likely, with very minimal effort in your current setup.

Well I brought in a newer PCIe graphics card from home and took out the PCIe X1300/1550.
New setup nVidia 8500(I know it's still old but it has W7 drivers from nVidia) and the VisionTek 2400 HD Pro PCI.

This STILL wont recognize the silly PCI card ... at all .. like it's not even in the PC ...
If I take everything out and reboot it comes up to the built in video card.
if I put in JUST the PCI card I STILL can't get it to be recognized. it's like W7 elimated ALL support for PCI video cards.

I do see what you are saying. I appreciate all your help.
I still dont see why the PCI card by itself is not recognized by Windows7.

I will endeavour to get a nice shiny ATI card for my pci express slot.
