    Screen Resolution Problems

    Hi all,
i installed windows 7 yesterday and all was going well until i saw that the size of my screen was too small. There are black areas on both sides of the screen.
i checked my screen resolution and tried to change it so that the screen would take up the whole size of the monitor. when i got to the screen resolution page to change it and when i click on the resolution drop-down, i can only see two options:
one was 1080 x 768 (the highest) which i am using currently and the other was 800 x 600 , the smaller one, when i click to change to this, i find that this one is far to small and covers only a very small section in the middle of my monitor.
when i try to research this on the internet, i find that there should be lots of different options to change my resolution to - and there is a 1280 x 1024 option which i need. but i do not get these, only the two options stated above.
i would much appreciate it if somebody could help me with this problem
    thank you.

Hello Pspman, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Have you already installed the latest version of your graphics card/chip drivers?
