Catalyst Control Center taking forever to start

I need this loaded at startup as I have custom gamma and flat panel settings.

I have minimal items checked at startup. I did a clean install of 13.9 drivers using DDU.

    Boot times:

    Boot time without CCC:
    Windows has started up:
    Boot Duration : 66265ms

    With CCC:
    Windows has started up:
    Boot Duration : 91452ms

Then to make matters worse the desktop sits there for 20 seconds before my custom CCC settings load.
This is a four year old GPU, HD5770, so I doubt a driver update would help.

I tried rolling back to an earlier driver (11.12) which worked flawlessly before but ATI related processes were crashing right and left.

Is it time for a Nvidia card?
Whats the correct process for completely uninstalling ATI drivers? Just using control panel leaves files, folders and registry entries scattered everywhere.

I would at least try installing the Catalyst 13.12 drivers.

If those don't improve the situation, I would try the Beta 14.2 drivers.
