Screen going blank, little white - black/square dots..

    Hello All,

Recently I built a new PC Show Us Your Rig [6]

I am having a display issue with it. The graphics card is an R7 260X 2GB overclocked edition from Saphire.

Now these issues don't happen regularly but it is worrying so I'd rather deal with it sooner than later :)

Sometimes in game (like Arma 3 ) and I occasionally see it on desktop. parts of my monitor only a small area usually top right I can see image being distorted it is usually white/black squares last around 10 seconds or so. I have two monitors and it happens to both monitors so I'd rule out a monitor problem.

Now today I was watching Top Gear on BBC Iplayer towards the end of the show my screen just went blank (black) I could only hear sound for around 10-20 seconds and then that went of to.. I'd had to force shutdown. This also happened to me the other day when I was changing HDMI cable (I have two monitors, and sometimes I switch to TV HDMI)

Here are the idle temps for the hardware (according to CPUID)

    Graphics Card = 36c (96F)
    CPU = 30c (82F)
    Mainboard 111C (231F)

in game GC is around (50/60c) have not seen it get higher than this
    CPU can get upto 40c

I have a 650w Corsair PSU unit. Also I have 3 case fans, two front, one top, so enough cooling.

Anyone know the likely cause? (I am guessing it's GC)

PS: All drivers are up to date and room temperature can be quite high 20c (I always have heater on)

could also be ram related, a dodgy stick can cause image issues.
I found that out after being 100% sure my card was duff got it RMA'd and the new one had the same issue... derp!

try the latest beta driver from AMD see if that helps. Lots of people seem to be having driver issues with the new r7 and r9 cards.

Have you overclocked the GPU? Try the last 2 driver releases. Install the Sapphire gpu oc util and under clock by 10%. It could be a bad card. Sapphire is pretty good on customer support. I recently rma'd a Sapphire 7950 and got a new 7970 as replacement.

No I have not OC'd it, however it is pre-overclocked.

I have not had the issue in a few days, I posted the issue on AMD forums as well.

AMD Support and Game Forums - AMD R7 260X Issue (Artifacts)

It did happen that day after getting latest beta driver, it was appearing in middle of screen and was happening when minimizing applications and also was happening in Control Panel every time I clicked a category (for example user accounts) it only happened for like 0.5 seconds very faint blue colour it happened when the animations (windows + aero) played, this got me figured to turn them all of in System Properties > Advanced Sys settings and setting performance to "Adjust for best performance" it has not happened after that, it seems like a lag issue. I have also never encountered black screen since I last reported this. saying that I am now only using one monitor.

Also I have connected the PC display via DVI + VGA adapter then vga + vga. cable. I forgot to mention if I hover over artifact or highlight them they disappear.

I've been getting something similar, except it is short vertical lines on the right side of my display, usually on the desktop. I'm running the same card and DVI. They go away if I move a window or the mouse over the area. It only happens occasionally.
