You will get different opinions from everyone.

But of course I`d say nVidia

Can`t wait to start benchmarking with both 770`s installed.

AMD used to be the rough and ready gpus that were cheaper but had loads of grunt.. but with bitcoin mining has pushed the prices up.

Nvidia have always been a safe bet, performance at a slight premium. but with solid drivers and reliability theyve always been great.

ive chopped and changed back and over the years and theres no huge difference in end user terms.

I currently have a gtx 770 and its great! the equivalent Amd card would be a R9 280x.

AMD GPU are more powerful than NVIDIA ones but I pick NVIDIA over AMD because of driver stability problems on AMD.

AMD is more powerful at Direct Compute

Nvidia cards are faster depending on the Software

Most games and applications will be suited for either or and depending on what you like to play and if PhysX is something you really care about and also PhysX can be used by your CPU do not have to depend on a Nvidia GPU for that

Also take into fact that AMD has released Mantle which will help lower end cards perform better bound by CPU Bottleneck this will manipulate the GPU more and take less load off the CPU

The reason this has come about because AMD cpu are not superior to Intel and this will make up the lack of CPU power pretty much

Factors for a better GPU experience will be CPU /Overclocking and PSU these three things will ensure top tier performance you also don't have to pair Brand with brand they all work great together

Now the most important this is how much your willing to spend and how much performance are you looking for

for right now Nvidia cards would be GTX760 -Mars GTX770-SC GTX780-TI
    AMD R9-270 R9-270X R9-280X R9-290 R9-290X

For the sake of humility the AMD cards perform best under water 290 /290x

but prices match NVIDA's top tier cards with better cooling that is what you will have to look at you want a HOT card you have to buy extra cooling for or a card that is respectable without having to go all out over ?

Cooling isnt an issue with amd cards, Maybe their reference cards but who buys those?
Amd cards have more ram which will enable the card to outperform nvidia cards at higher resolutions than 1080p
AMD has fantastic driver support, They are still slightly cheaper than Nvidia and they go great with AMD CPU's(State the obvious)
    1.AMD
    2.Nvidia

That might be true but 3GB is plenty for Higher Res plus they only have 1 gb more The top tier card besides almost every card supports 2560x1600

the GTX 780ti out performs the titan in almost every bench mark. even the new gtx titan black are pretty level pegged.

if youre only after gaming at 1080p and dont want to spend the earth, id go with either a GTX 760 or a R9 270. if you want a bit more future proofing/ willy waving the GTX 770 or R9 280x will go down very well.
