Video card not detecting second monitor

I've got an AMD Radeon HD 7800 video card with two DVI slots. I've also got two monitors, each of which has a VGA -> DVI adapter on it. Each of these monitors works just fine when I plug them into the first DVI slot on the video card, but neither will work when I plug it into the second slot, either simultaneously or one at a time. I have tried plugging both of them in, in both configurations, and hit Detect Display in the control panel, and it never detects a second display. I have used multiple monitors in the past when one screen was connected to the video card and the second was connected to the motherboard, so the issue somehow seems to be with the video card? Am I missing something?

The reason that they are not being detected on the second DVI port is because the port is DVI-D (digital only), where the first is DVI-I (digital and analogue),

Unfortunately the only fix is monitors with DVI (or HDMI) ports, or try and find a DVI to VGA converter (not to be confused with the adapter you are using).

Both monitors have DVI ports, so if I use a DVI-DVI cable then it should solve the problem?

    Yes it will.

P.S. When available, always use DVI over VGA.
