    HUGE cursor...

    Hey all,

I've just purchased a new Saphire HD 5770, and have come across a couple of issues.

I initially installed the catalyst control panel and drivers which came on the software disk included, and was given a WEI score of 7.4 for gaming and aero graphics, but had an issue where the cursor would sporadically triple in size.

The issue would resolve itself after a reboot.

I decided to update to the latest drivers, from the ATI website, (9.10) and the issue keeps occuring, but I've found that my WEI score has dropped from 7.4 to 6.0... has anyone else experienced these issues? Does anyone have any solutions?

I was under the impression that the cursor issue was a video problem, but after a bit of research it seems that the issue might be due to a motherboard problem (gigabyte ga-p55m-ud2).

All drivers are up to date, including the latest fg2 beta bios, which resolved a lot of issues in W7.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Elephantitis of the Cursor

Does the cursor look just as large if you boot in safe mode (press F8 during startup)?

    Hi H2SO4,

I've booted it in safemode, and it doesn't appear to replicate the issue. The thing is, I'm not 100% sure what sets it off. If I reboot, the cursor is fine if I leave it idle, but eventually something random sets it off and it's huge.

Not to worry- it appears it's ATI's drivers for the 5000 series cards. There are issues at the moment with current drivers acting like a viagra for your cursor.

Have to wait until november it seems for a revised driver.

Yeah, it's some issue with the drivers for the 5000 cards. I have the same card as you, haven't had this problem at all.
Some more threads on the issue, and it's already been discussed in the ATI forums, so I'm sure they know about it.

    Weird Cursor Glitch

AMD Game Forums - 9.10 5870, CURSOR ISSUE NOT FIXED.

BTW, the 5770 isn't listed with the 9.10, you should be using these for the 5770, which are a little later (8.66.6) than the 9.10 (8.66.1)

What about trying the cat 9.11 beta drivers, or reverting back to 9.9, or even the drivers that came on the disc?

I'm using the 9.11 beta drivers now and they seem to be working ok. I have also noticed I don't get the stuttering when watching movies in a browser anymore either. Fingers crossed that its all ok.

The P55 board is ****. They really need to get onto releasing a stable bios. The latest beta (which is what most w7 users have to use to enable ahci and prevent blue screening) has issues with the usb or something. I just bricked my iphone, and it seems i've discovered a whole community of people who have just suffered the same misfortune. You cant even recover the phone on the p55 pc, i've had to copy all the backup data to my laptop and do a full restore from the lappy to get my phone working.

    same issue

I have the same issue on my gigabyte 5770 card. the cursor will randomly get big and a randomly drops out of areo mode and back again and worse is sometimes coming out of sleep mode the monitor will not come on after a reboot and looking at error report section it is saying a video driver issue. I have the newest 9.11 and still the same. I sure hope they get this fixed soon.
