Have you installed the latest chipset drivers first?

I would install the chipset drivers, then try the vga again. Also install the hotfix for intel management engine, it is the last driver listed.

I was wondering is it possible to use onboard graphics from my motherboard and use my graphics card at the same time?
Almost certainly No. How would you benefit?
The on board graphics uses the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) which is built into the CPU package. This is quite common for on board graphics.
Well my monitor only connects by VGA and my motherboard does not have a vga port.

Okay, I was hoping for an error code with it.

Lets try this. Power down and remove your discrete card. Power up into your bios and set it for IGD and go into windows. Then try installing the latest vga driver from MSI. If this works, the power down and re install the discrete gpu.
