    AMD HD7700 not recognized

We did a HD wipe of a Dell XPS 8500 last night, which worked great with the help of the nice folks on here.

Now today we tried to get in all the drivers, but having trouble with the video card - AMD Radeon HD 7700. The computer will not recognize it.

We installed several times the auto update program from AMD website. The install says it worked perfectly but after reboot, Control Panel Device Manager does not have it listed. And the computer says we have to run the auto detect. But I cannot find any auto detect.

We tried manually deleting the default video card listing from Device Manager as well, rebooting and reinstalling to no avail.

    What are we missing? Thanks!

    Hi

are you getting the driver from dell site? http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/...s-8500/drivers should be the first one under video.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I have to work a lot of 12 hour days.

Anyhow... the video card mentioned above did not come with the system at the time we ordered it. It was about 6 months later after the Dell purchase. So it did not use the driver from the Dell site, but rather the AMD site.

So I will physically remove the device itself and remove all drivers and use the base video that came with the system and start over that way and report if there are further problems.

It's my husband's computer and I don't want him touching my laptop. LOL

If the card is a third party card, and not a Dell card, you should not use the Dell driver. Use the most recent one at

    Desktop

That's the proper x64 AMD drivers for the card, as well as the Catalyst Control Center

Try doing another Windows 7 Update with the video card installed. It very well might offer a video card driver.
