    ASUS R9 290 vs. R9 290X ($40 Price Difference)?

I'm wondering if I should buy the ASUS Direct CUII R9 290X over the R9 290 (of the same brand and cooler). The 290X is going for about $299.99, and the 290 is $259.99. Both are from NCIX, after $30 MIRs and in Canadian dollars. My dilemma is whether the 290X is worth the extra $40, as I've read that the difference in performance between the cards is very small.

Any opinions on the matter are greatly appreciated.

Comparison: ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II vs R9 290

As you said, the hardware comparison is rather miniscule, but I believe that when it comes down to your final decision, it's pretty much dependent on if the extra money is worth the performance gain in your eyes.

I'd go for the 290X, I suspect the non-X are just the same cards that failed to pass at 290X specs.

$40 isn't even the cost of a new high-end FPS game.

The comparison site PwnFrnzy posted was funny showing the 290X costing $10 LESS than the 290.

In either case, sweet price for the performance.

Thanks for the replies. I've decided to go with the 290; after reading through many reviews and benchmark results, the 290 and 290X seem to differ only by a few frames in games. I'd rather save the $40 over such a marginal performance difference.

Also, those Amazon prices are higher than the listed NCIX prices anyways (for once a Canadian retailer has lower prices!).

    Cheers, and Merry (belated) Christmas.

GPU Boss isn't a trusty website, it feels like a troll.
